 Sri lanka consists of a multi - national community. Each community has a place for children when celebrating festivals , parents expose children to the traditions of their culture.


This new year is celebrated both by the Sinhalese and Tamils in April. During the festival , children are given an important place. Parents expose their children to the traditions of the new year and make them observe them. Parents buy gifts and clothes for their children and children of their relatives.


A swing is put up in villages. Onchillawaram, folksongs are sung. Olinda keliya , pancha keliya , Eluwan kema , Pillow fighting ,Climbing the greased pole are some of the new year festival games. These games are organized on a grand scale and is telecast island - wide in all the TV channels. This is how children enjoy the new year in unity and harmony with their fellow brothers and sisters in their villages.

 My favorite cricketer is Dasun Shanaka. He is a well known cricketer. He was born on September 9th 1991 in Negombo. Shanaka is famous for his all - round abilities in cricket , as he can both batting and bowling effectively.
